What to Check Before Renting a Transformer?
Look beyond the equipment alone. The physical condition should be sound, the technical condition verified, and the provider capable of handling everything between the yard and a commissioned unit at your site.
Physical condition
A rental transformer does not need to look new to be fit for service. Dents, paint wear and surface corrosion are cosmetic and generally correctable. What matters is that the unit is structurally sound and free of conditions that affect safe operation: active oil leakage, damaged or cracked bushings, corroded or blocked radiators, compromised fittings, and a nameplate that matches the unit and the contract.
Technical condition and test records
Technical suitability is critical. The transformer should match the required capacity, voltage, frequency, phase, vector group, tap arrangement and other project-specific specifications. The relevant condition checks and electrical tests should be completed before deployment, with supporting test records made available where applicable.
